What Sets Us Apart

Owens Orthodontics began in July 1968, when Knoxville orthodontist Dr. Richard M. Bowles opened Bowles Orthodontics. In 1970, he expanded his practice and became the first orthodontist to establish a permanent practice in the nearby town of Maryville, TN.

Dr. Bowles’ son, Dr. Ryan G. Bowles, joined his father in practice in 2005 before taking over Bowles Orthodontic Specialists in 2009. They both continued to practice together until Dr. Ryan decided to leave orthodontics and pursue humanitarian work overseas. In 2011, Dr. Mark J. Owens acquired the orthodontic practice from Dr. Ryan Bowles, allowing Ryan and his family to relocate to the Middle East to pursue work in humanitarianism.

Dr. Mark Owens and Dr. Newsom Baker then worked together in the practice. They followed the philosophy that every patient is unique and every smile requires a personalized approach and custom treatment plan. Drs. Owens and Baker have completed advanced specialty training that allowed them to strictly limit their practice to orthodontics.

Today, Dr. Mark Owens runs the practice in Maryville, Tennessee. Patients can rest assured that Dr. Mark Owens and his team have the experience and the focus to provide the best orthodontic care possible.
